Khanakah Harmony, or simply Harmony (born Sheldon Jermaine Facey, February 24, 1976, St Catherine, Jamaica) is a conscious Rastafarian Reggae Artiste, Song Writer and Studio Engineer. He is best known for song, ‘Burn Rome’, on which he and fellow reggae artiste, I Wayne collaborated. Harmony is also the Mixing/Recording Engineer for the mega-hit song, ‘Angola’, by artiste, Jah Bouks and he was also instrumental in the early development of the musical careers of both I Wayne & Gyptian, among other artistes.
He spent his early childhood years growing up at Oliver Road in East Kingston. There he surrounded himself with musical activities from the constrained church choir to the unrestrained music of the streets. He had a passion for music from an early age and knew that this would become an important part of his life as he grew. Khanakah (Americ for fire) and Harmony exemplify the persona, the heart and soul of this reggae artiste. His tone is distinct, smooth & soothing. His peers in the music industry, from the likes of Glen Ricks, Louie Culture, Admiral Tibet and Mad Cobra, to name a few, have all vouched for his talent.
Currently, two new singles are soon to be released for Harmony, Mother’s Cry & Making Life. Mother’s Cry is about the struggles and oppression people endure while at the same time reaffirming the hope that the oppressors will face justice. In Making Life, a stark contrast is drawn with those who take life, destroy life versus the act of love making, creating life. It also portrays the woman in her fulsome role as Mother, adorning her with much love and respect.
There are over five hundred songs in Harmony’s song writing catalogue and they are all positive, uplifting and expressive. These include tracts like All the Way’, ‘Protect the Children’, ‘Better to Make a Life’, ‘Just One of Those’, ‘Music is Healing’, and ‘Power’. About his music, Harmony has said it is to calm the mind and soothe the soul. It is his hope that his music will resonate with music lovers all over the world, similar to those of Bob Marley, Dennis Brown and Garnet Silk for whom the artiste has much love and respect. Harmony has also been privileged to benefit from the tutelage of a few of Jamaica’s best in the music industry – these include Mr Wong, Black Beard of Tipsy Record, Computer Paul, Mr Bertus, Jamaica Papa Curvin and Afrikan Symbal.
Of course, no stranger to performances, Harmony has represented on the local & international stage. He has performed at events like, Summerjam Festival in Cologne, Germany, Rototom Sunsplash, Spain, Two Sevens Splash, Amsterdam, Netherlands and Switzerland Montreux Jazz Festival. He and his Rastafarian brother, I Wayne toured some thirteen European countries in 2006 & 2008.
When not in the studio, Harmony can be found practising yoga or tai chi, counselling brothers & sisters who seek his guidance, reading and sharing his knowledge on philosophical things. He is a natural loving soul whose musical prowess is just bursting to be exposed!
